About
About KEPT
KEPT, at efah.org, is a register of what Europe has made and what it has decided to keep.
It covers painting and objects in the collections; buildings still standing and buildings put to new use; the trades that survived because somebody kept teaching them; the rites and processions that are themselves heritage; the ordinary work of keeping; and the places where one country’s practice parts from its neighbour’s. It is a publication, not a body. It runs no programmes and takes no positions.
How an entry is written
Every entry names a thing and the place that holds it. Where the record is thin or contested, the entry says so instead of smoothing it over.
Works, places and attributions are stated as the record states them. Where two accounts disagree, the entry says which and leaves the disagreement in view rather than choosing for the reader.
